The course is designed for those who like to focus exclusively on their Spanish learning progress while being in country and who want to address plenty of topics within a short period of time. The course totals 40 lessons per week and fully meets the criteria for “Bildungsurlaub” in those German States (like Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) which require 8 class hours per day. It combines 30 group lessons (intensive course) with 10 private lessons per week (45 min per lesson). Classes take place Monday till Friday, each day usually with 4 group lessons in the morning, 2 additional group and 2 private lessons in the afternoon.

Students can choose to book a package of Spanish private lessons which can be more flexibly distributed throughout the student’s stay. This gives them the possibility to •book a package of private lessons only (min. package size: 10 lessons) with the purpose to intensively work with their private teacher on their individual language needs, practice their conversational skills, work on specific vocabulary (e.g. Medical Spanish, Business Spanish) or to use those private lessons to prepare for special purposes like job interview, exam preparation, etc. Students do not need to have classes every day from Mon-Fri and can have also only 2 lessons per each session. Such 10 private lessons can be stretched over up to 5 weeks (2 les/wk).

You like to learn more about Dominican culture, traditions, and history? You are curious to know what is "típico dominicano"? You want to combine classroom knowledge with real life language practice? “Spanish & Culture” provides an explicit understanding of the Dominican culture. The course combines a Spanish Group Course Standard of 20 lessons per week with 4 additional lessons of private tuition on various cultural topics (in 2016 2 additional hours) . Students will gain a deeper insight into history, society, and the Dominican way of life. Classes will usually be taught at IIC. At times, the teacher will also take you onto a "salida pedagogica" outside of school to experience every day Dominican culture and practice your Spanish skills amongst the people on the street. If there is only 1 student assigned for a group level, the school reserves the right to convert the group course into Private 1-on-1 tuition instead which will result in a 50% reduction of class time. If there is an official holiday (see list Dates & Prices), IIC will offer for Group Courses an optional 2-hour “Spanish & Culture“-group class for compensation. Private Lessons will continue to be fully rescheduled.

The 4-week program consists of 2 weeks of Spanish class plus 2 weeks of volunteer work; prolongations can be booked in addition. During the first 2 weeks students will study Spanish at IIC. Classes are offered on different language levels, also for Spanish beginners. The group course (max. 7 students) consists of 20 45-min lessons per week and runs from Monday to Friday, usually from 9:00AM till 12:30PM. Volunteering Project Hogar Doña Chucha: Our program partner is a Center for Girls between 6 and 17 years from difficult family backgrounds or in difficult personal situations. They are offered classes, other activities as well as a place to stay. At present, Doña Chucha takes care of about 100 girls and teenagers. Volunteering experiences there include: Organize and lead workshops with the children (English classes, learning games, music, dance, theater, painting, environmental education etc.); support the Center’s office/ library team (support with statistics, organization, website/ answering inquiries), and more. Starting dates are every second Monday all year round. Accommodation and airport transfer can be booked additionally.

The shared school apartments are located near the Institute, in just 2 minutes walking distance, and offer room for usually 1-3 persons (in single occupancy; double occupancy also possible at extra charge for students travelling together). The apartments have 1-3 single rooms, 1-2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, living and dining room and a balcony. Each room is equipped with 1 king-size bed, closets, cable-TV, and fan (no air-conditioning). Students with an own laptop or smart phone can use wireless LAN there for free. Accommodation is with self-catering. Prices include bed linen and cleaning every second day (except on Sundays and public holidays) Private bathroom available at extra charge of USD 49.- per week (in 2016 at USD 8.-/night.). Our accommodation nights are calculated as follows: arrival on Sunday before course start, departure on Saturday after course end. Earlier arrival or later departure is, of course, also possible with an extra charge and based on availability. Please note: The check-in time is fixed up-front as the school is closed on weekends and in the evenings. For late evening/early morning arrivals one needs to book the airport pick-up with the school in order to be able to check-in in the night of arrival.
